Keeping Your Skin Moisturized During the Winter 2

The reason your skin gets so dry during the winter is mainly because the air around it is so dry. The drier the air, the more water you lose from your skin.

While you can’t make the air more humid outside, you CAN control the moisture level inside your home or workplace. Setting up a humidifier in your house and office will help your skin stay soft and supple all year round.

While you can’t use a humidifier outside, you can protect your skin from the dry air by covering it up. While you might think you don’t need to bundle up for a short walk outside, putting on a coat, gloves, and a scarf will help keep your skin hydrated.

If you’re going to be outside for longer periods of time, you can protect yourself more by putting on lotion before you cover up.

Another notorious offender for drying out your skin besides the cold weather is soap.

As the cold and flu season revs up, we’re much more likely to wash our hands and use harsh antibacterial soaps that suck the moisture from our hands and the rest of the body.

To keep moisture in, find moisturizing hand soap and use moisturizing cleansers as opposed to soap for the rest of your body. Just like lotions, look for soaps with added vitamins to help stop your skin from drying out. Make sure you avoid harsh detergents all year round.

Just because it’s cold and dry in the winter, doesn’t mean you have to deal with itchy and embarrassing dry skin.

Just take these few extra steps to keep it looking and feeling great all year round, but especially during the harsh winter months.

Keeping Your Skin Moisturized During the Winter 1

Winter is a great time for snuggling by a fire, having snowball fights, and singing carols, but it also comes with freezing temperatures, dry air, and harsh winds.

All these things can take a toll on your skin, leaving it dry, flaky, and looking dull. Don’t let winter take a toll on your skin, and your overall beauty. Get started now to keep your skin looking healthy all the way through the holidays.

The most important step for keeping your skin moisturized is to drink plenty of water. Creams and lotions are great, but they can only do so much.

If your cells aren’t properly hydrated, they will not only be rough and dry, but can also become red, bloated, and simply unhealthy looking.

If you get enough water to drink, your skin will stay more moist, and your body will stay more healthy, as water helps flush out all the toxins in your body.

We all know using moisturizers during the winter is important to keep your skin from drying out. They not only provide hydration, they also form a protective barrier to help your skin hold moisture in.

But when choosing a beaty product for your hands and body, and especially your face, remember that all moisturizers are not created equal.

Choose moisturizers that contain nutrients like vitamin A, D, and E that will nourish your skin and help it retain more moisture.

Healthy Hair In the Winter 2

While treating your hair from the outside is great, it is also important to take steps to strengthen and soften it from the inside, so be careful with your diet.

Vitamins like A, C, E, and various B vitamins can all help improve hair quality. The best is to eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and good fats, such as those from the avocado, and olive oil, but you can boost your hair (and your health) by adding a daily multivitamin.

Just like your skin, your hair gets its moisture from your body. That means that if you want to keep your hair hydrated, you have to keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water. This will also help make your skin look better, leave you feeling better, and may even help you lose weight because water will help your stomach feel more full.

If you want to keep your hair looking and feeling great, you can’t just pay attention to the hair, you also have to worry about your scalp. During the winter months your head will be covered a lot of the time, plus you’ll be yanking your hat on and off.

Not only does an unhealthy scalp cause annoying problems like dandruff, your scalp is where the hair gets its moisture and life. If your scalp isn’t healthy, it’s likely that your hair won’t be either.

So be sure to use products that moisturize the skin and hair on your head. If you suffer from dandruff, try hot oil treatments and special shampoos designed to deal with that problem.

Another good tip is to massage your scalp regularly to keep the roots stimulated and growing.

While it may take a bit of extra work, you can keep your hair moisturized and looking beautiful all year round, even during the winter months.

Healthy Hair In the Winter 1

The winter can really wreck your hair and skin if you are not careful.

It’s not just the lack of sunlight and cold that can leave you dropping and depleted, but your hair too.

But it is possible to have silky smooth hair all year long. You just need to take some extra steps to keep it healthy during the more harsh winter months we have in the north.

If you want to keep your hair looking great through the winter, you’ve got to start early. In the late autumn, get your hair trimmed, and use a deep conditioning treatment, like a hair mask or hot oil treatment

This will help make your hair healthy to begin with and stop winter damage before it ever starts. Just remember to maintain your hair thereafter with regular trims and special conditioning treatments through the winter.

In addition to these special treatments, you might also consider changing your daily hair care routine as well. During the winter, try alternating your regular conditioner with an extra moisturizing one, or even a leave-in conditioner.

Just be sure you don’t overdo it, otherwise your hair we get limp and weighed down by too much moisture.

During the cold winter months, you’re much more likely to blow-dry your hair to keep it from freezing when you step outside. Take extra steps to keep your dryer and other styling tools such as curling irons or hot rollers from doing damage to your hair.

Always remember to apply styling products like sprays, gels, or conditioners that are specially designed to protect and repair styled hair, and are intended to work with heat as well.

The Benefits of Natural Skin Care

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Skin care should not be complicated but it should definitely be beneficial, leaving your skin in better shape than when you started.

Natural products for the skin can not only cleanse and tone, they can add radiance to your skin without harsh chemicals, preservatives or artificial ingredients.

Herbs and other natural ingredients have been used for thousands of years as effective cleansing tools for the skin. The ancient Romans and Egyptians were famed for their beauty. Only in the past two hundred years have women turned away from traditional home-made skin care to ready-made, store-bought concoctions.

Some of these over-the counter soaps and treatments can have harsh side effects due to the man-made ingredients and chemical additives and preservatives.

Some of these skin care side effects include irritation, redness, pimples, and dry skin.

For a simple, smart skin care routine without chemicals and their side effects, why not consider using natural products that won’t strip or irritate even the most sensitive of skins.

For example, gentle cleansers made from chamomile are excellent. It helps clean the skin, unclog pores, and also serves to soothe your skin and prevent redness. (Chamomile can also be used as an excellent brightener for blond hair).

Another popular choice is cucumber, which has a calming effect on the skin, and can reduce irritation. It also has a wonderful cooling effect, and can be especially good for puffiness around the eyes.

If you have oily or combination skin, choose a cleanser that incorporates tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is a natural astringent, and in this case it decreases sebum production, and also bacteria. It penetrates deep into the pores, and this in combination with its anti-bacterial properties, can help prevent acne.

It has a cooling effect upon the skin as well, so it can be used as a high powered acne treatment, but without the redness and dryness which often goes hand in hand with trying to zap those pesky zits. Comfrey and seaweed can also help keep down acne.

People with dry skin should look for rich, soothing creams that incorporate nourishing and soothing ingredients like chamomile or frankincense. They enhance skin’s moisture levels, help retain moisture and firmness, and thus prevent wrinkling.

Natural skin care has many advantages over the typical store-bought products which are packed full of artificial ingredients. Natural skin care is healthful, safe, and inexpensive. If you have sensitive skin, or are disappointed with products you have bought to try to cure your skin problems, natural skin care products you can make in the comfort of your own home in small, ultra-fresh batches, may be your best skin care option.
